Jostens MVP Award Nominees
Joey Braun (Aces)
Joey is currently 5th in league scoring (37 pts) and leads the team with 20 goals in 20 games. Joey is a big part of the Aces success contributing in all aspects of the game including powerplay and penalty kill. Currently in Grade 11, Joey is in his second year with the club.
Mitch Chanel (Mustangs)
Mitch is an integral part of the Mountain Mustang team. He is an assistant captain on the team and is a leader on and off the ice. Mitch has led a very young team (3 AP players, only 2 grade 12’s) to a 16-6 record. Even though he missed 3 games due to injury, Mitch has 36 points which puts him eighth in league scoring. The Mountain Mustangs currently score 4.6 goals per game. Mitch has a 1.89 PPG statistic which is very impressive. Mitch is a very dynamic player in terms of skills. He has a great shot, intense work ethic, fast and sees the ice better than most in the league. Mitch makes everyone around him a better player and is very respectful to teammates and coaches.
Nathan Christiuk (Mavericks)
A third year player in Grade 12 student, is a fierce competitor shows up every night to play and leads by example and was largely responsible for the Maverick turnaround season. Nathan finished in the top 10 scorers, averaging over a point and half per game, with 13 goals, 23 assists and 36 points. He represented the Mavericks in this years Zone IV All Star game, and plays in all defensive situations and is his teams top penalty killer.Nathan focuses on hockey during the winter and is an elite baseball player in summer.
Paul Fouasse (Cougars)
Paul is a 4th year player. Paul’s game is a rare blend of skill, leadership, and physicality. This is Paul’s second year as a Zone IV top ten scorer and Zone IV all-star. He plays an intimidating physical style and can change the face of the game with his physical play. He is one of the hardest hitting Cougars in recent history. He combines this style with skill and leadership. He is the Cougars’ captain and leading scorer and is currently in 10th place in points and tied for 6th in goals in the Zone. Paul has scored at least one goal in all of the Cougars’ league wins except for one. He shows character and is a low maintenance player. He leads by example and is undoubtedly a huge factor in the Cougars’ success.
Dale Harder (Zodiacs)
Dale has been outstanding this year. He is the league leader in scoring with 23 goals and 34 assists for 57 points. Dale plays in all key situations for the Zodiacs.
Jesse Mutcheson (Thunder)
Jesse is a versatile player who has played every position this year except goalie. Jesse is a great penalty killer, who understands the game of hockey very well. He is probably one of the strongest pound for pound players in the league this year. His strong desire to play the game is shown by the fact that he will go out and take on any roll he is given.
Mitchell Nelissen (Trojans)
Mitchell has been one of our goal tenders this season and consistently faced upwards of 40 to 50 shots a game. While much of our year has been rebuilding – our goal tending has been consistently solid. Any game we won or stayed competitive in was largely due to goal tending.
Top Goaltender Award
Riley Braun (Aces)
Riley has an impressive 12-4-1 record with the Aces and an even more impressive 2.89 GAA and .913 Save %. Riley has provided not only solid goaltending for the Aces but consistency and leadership as well. Riley is currently in Grade 12 and will be graduating from W.C. Miller collegiate this year.
Alcide Grenier (Mustangs)
Alcide is in his first year as part of the Mountain Mustang hockey team. Alicide is a fierce competitor who has a will to win that is second to none. He is a great teammate and a very coach-able young man. This being Alcide’s first year on our team he has jumped right into a leadership role and is respected by all his teammates. Alcide statistics are very impressive. He is 7-2 on the year with a 2.36 GAA. His save % is over .900 which is a testament on how consistent he is when stopping the puck. Over he is 5th in the league in GAA. His winning % is 4th in the league. (These stats are taking in consideration over 500 minutes played.)
Carson Keck (Mavericks)
This 2nd year, Grade 10 student in 15 games with the Morris Mavericks, had a GAA of under 2 goals a game, he led the Zone IV with 5 shut outs, had a save % of over .930. His winning percentage was 2nd only to teammate Diamond Maxymowich
John Laninga (Thunder)
John is a solid 6’ 1”, 190 lb goalie and has a butterfly style of play. John has a never give up attitude that has kept his team in many games where they have been out shot sometimes two to one. John has faced 685 shots letting in just 58 goals. Along with his outstanding play John has kept a 93% combined grade average.

Blaine Unger (Zodiacs)
Blaine has been rock solid for the Zodiacs, recording a microscopic GAA of 1.37 and an unheard of .950 save percentage. Among starting goalies, Blaine ranks 1st in GAA, 1st in Save Percentage, T2nd in Shutouts, and 3rd in Wins.
Nathan Yeo (Cougars)
Nathan is a grade 11 student and a 3rd year player and two-time Zone all-star. Nathan has played in many of the Cougars’ tough games this season. He always gives the Cougars a chance to win. His goals against average is 2.47, a full goal a game below the league average of 3.66, yet his winning percentage is only 0.333. Nathan has been a victim of the Cougars’ inability to score more goals in close games. Nathan also has a solid 0.903 save percentage. Nathan is a gamer and is ready to compete on a nightly basis.
Most Sportsmanlike Player Award
Kyle Case (Trojans)
Kyle captained our team and seldom drew a penalty in a game. Hard working and coachable – Kyle has led by example both on and off the ice. Kyle earns respect from his team, his coaches and often his opponents.
Mitch Chanel (Mustangs)
Mitch is the ideal role model for all young players. He has the respect of all his teammates, coaches and opposing players from around the league. Mitch has taken a leadership role to a very young team both on and off the ice. Even though Mitch is noticed and “keyed” on by opposing teams he never loses his focus and rarely takes a penalty. He is a very clean and respected player that only took 4 minutes in penalties all year. Mitch has 36 points in 19 games which is 1.89 PPG. If you break down his penalty minute number he had 4 minutes in 1140 minutes of play this year.
Ethan Comeault (Mavericks)
A big, smooth skating, highly skilled centre iceman in Grade 12. Ethan is an offensive threat, every time he is on the ice accumulated over a point per game with 11 goals, 13 assists for 24 points in only 22 games while acquiring only 6 minutes in penalties.
Rydell Reimer (Thunder)
Rydell is a high speed center, who has only taken one penalty this year. He is a strong forechecker and is fourth in team scoring this year. I have not heard Rydell express himself in a bad way to anyone at all this year. He is a pleasure to coach and have on the team this year.

Chris Seymour (Tigers)
"Chris has had another good year offensively with 7 goals and 8 assists, while compiling only 10 minutes in penalties. Chris is one of only two Tigers to play in every game this year and is a key ingedient to the teams penalty kill, as well as playing on the power play. he gives a great effort each and every time on the ice."
Cole Smith (Zodiacs)
Cole is clearly an example of skill and sportsmanship. Cole has amassed 42 points in league play (currently 6th overall). Cole has done this without taking a single penalty, Cole has 0 penalty minutes this year. Cole is a very classy and respectful young man.
Nick Thiessen (Aces)
Nick is currently 4th in league scoring (40 pts) and has accumulated 6 minors in total. Nick plays the game with a lot of intensity and leads by example both on and off the ice. Currently in Grade 11, Nick is in his second year with the club.
Shane Walker (Cougars)
Shane is a grade 10 student and second year Cougar. Shane plays in all keys situations. He’s on the power play and kills penalties. He is very good in his own end and contributes offensively, 7 points in 22 league games. Shane exhibits a tough yet clean style of play. He is a hard working and competitive player that leads by example. Shane often battles in front of the net and in the corners. He logs well over 25 minutes every game. He has plays tough in his own end and has taken only 10 minutes in penalties.
Keenan Wiebe (Blues)
Having compiled 12 goals, 6 assists, and only 6 penalty minutes, Keenan Wiebe is MCI’s nomination for the league’s Most Sportsmanlike Player. As captain of the Blues, Keenan has led with his explosive speed, tenacity, great work ethic, and constant offensive threat. Often recognized as one of the best players on the ice by other teams, Keenan is still able to maintain a style of play that demonstrates sportsmanship in all areas of the ice. His heart and desire is second to none and this, combined with his excellent talent, makes him well-deserving of this award.
Lew Mueller Defenseman of the Year Award
Brett Bennie (Cougars)
Brett is a grade 11 student and second year Cougar and two time Zone all-star. Brett plays in all keys situations. He’s on the power play and kills penalties. At the all star game skills competition Brett was the 3rd fastest skater. He is a very enthusiastic and popular player, not only with teammates but with the fans. He is very good in his own end and contributes offensively, 7 points in 23 league games. Brett exhibits an aggressive yet clean style of play and has only taken 10 minutes in penalties. He is a hard working and competitive player that leads by example. Brett never gives up and all who watch him appreciate his style of play. Brett regularly logs over 25 minutes a game.
Charles Bergstresser (Mavericks)
Is a 3rd year, Grade 12 student, he is highly respected by both players and officials around the league. Charles logs over 30 minutes of icetime per game on the Maverick blueline, contributing in a big way to his defensive play and led his team in defenseman scoring with 14 points.
Denis Delaquis (Mustangs)
Denis is an assistant captain on the 09-10 Mustang team. Denis has the all the qualities of a great leader which shows on and off the ice. His passion to play the game shows in every shift he played all season long. Denis is a steady, stay at home defensemen who managed to also contribute almost a point per game. His 17 points in 21 games ranks him up near the top defensemen in the league. Denis played nearly 30 + minutes every game this season. Many of these valuable minutes were played against other teams top lines. This is a testament to how confident the coaching staff is with Denis. Denis is an intimidating physical defenseman who plays the game at a very high level. His biggest attribute is that he only was in the penalty box for a total of 18 minutes all season while playing a physical role.
Daniel Heinrichs (Aces)
Daniel is the Miller Aces team captain and leader. Daniel plays a lot of important minutes for the Aces against the other team’s top offensive players. Daniel is currently in Grade 12 and will be graduating from W.C. Miller collegiate this year.
Brady Kidd (Tigers)
"Brady has had a solid year on the Tigers defense compiling a +6 plus-minus rating (2nd on the team) while being a physical presence on the teams' blueline." Brady, who is in his last year of hockey, also has 3 goals and 6 assists for 9 points."
Matt Sibbald (Thunder)
Matt is a strong defenceman in his last year of high school hockey. Matt has a good outlet pass, and handles the puck well. As our captain he has been a good team leader. Matt is also second in team scoring.
Chad Unrau (Zodiacs)
Chad has the ability to control a hockey game. His strength, speed, and shot are exceptional. Chad is the top scoring defenceman in the league with 25 points in 22 games.
Bryce Werbiski (Trojans)
Bryce is our hardest working defenceman. He back checks consistently and skates hard to cover both ends of the ice. He has a great sense of the game and worked himself to game shape and stayed there – often playing almost 30 minutes a game.
